I'm absolutely brand new to Linux, having just begun my escape from the dark side. I just installed Mandrake 9.0 as the only system on an old Gateway (266Mhz PII, 128Mb memory, 6Gb hard drive). I'm just using it as a learning project at this stage, and have come across a little glitch. During the installation I accepted every default choice, with two seemingly minor exceptions. First, I selected A LOT of the package groups, but no individual programs. Second, and probably more relevant, while selecting languages, I selected English as default but also selected Spanish, German and Russian, since I have some fluency in each and may eventually be hosting some users preferring those languages.

OK, everything seems fine, with everything appearing in English, with documentation also available in the alternative languages I selected. However, when I opened some old MS Office files under KDE using StarOffice, it shows up as the Spanish localization. I don't have a real problem dealing with this, except that my work slows way down because I'm always wondering how it happened and how I can change it. I've rummaged around looking for some script or configuration file, so far without any luck. I'd rather not simply re-install the application, since there's no guarantee that things will turn out any different. Any reasonable suggestion would be greatly appreciated, not only in order to fix this situation, but more importantly to help me learn just how things work. Thanks.
