Well, Hotmail never ran of LinuxIIRC
When they bought HotMail, they tried to convert the servers to NT, but
it was a complete disaster (as you might imagine.) So they had to
switch back to the original platform.
I don't recall which unix flavor it was though. Something in the back
of my mind says BSD.

http://www.hotmailsux.com/ should do the trick. I stumbled upon it while
trying to do the same thing as you, Mike (i.e. convince friends how crap
Hotmail and Microsoft is). However, it states that Hotmail began with FreeBSD
(not Linux), and after a failed attempt at moving it to NT, it is now back

I missed something of this thread, it seems. MS did try to make
yes and I like it that way. The minute M$ starts making apps for Linux I
have a feeling we'll be right back to one of the original reasons I left
windows. I don't want that and I'm hoping neither does the Linux

That is somewhat scary. It reminds me what Gates said few weeks ago. The
secret of MS success, is the stupidity of other company's, and that he would
destroy MS if he would take over another company very fast.
But to takeover Linux movement, it's a long shot at best, I think. Like linux

Heh. Filesystem GUIs were around long before OS/2 or MacOS, though they
were significantly less complex. Anyone remember GeOS for the Commodore
64/128 by Berkeley Softworks? Shockingly similar to early versions of
MacOS. This was even before the days of mice (mouses?) and you had to
