Are you logged in as root? I am pretty sure only root can access mountable
drives.

are your cd-roms scsi ??
if not check your lilo.conf might see that lilo is configured for a scsi
while it is not !
if zo delete it and rerun lilo...
if the at rebooting it asks tells you something is removed choose for option
keep current conf
