I also have same problem with Mark Berkwitt regarding sound in Mandrake 8.2.
I am using soundard Trident 4D NX and detected by Harddrake but why when
playing sample sound still no sound heard? Also when I try to play XMMS, it
plays but no sound output from my speaker. Somebody help me

KDE sets up the sound better than Gnome?
I've got a mainboard with a CMI8738 sound chip. Installation recognized it
but it still doesn't play.
