Hiya all,

Overall, I am absolutely astounded at Mandrake 7. It finally supports everything
in my box. :D

Couple of minor problems, though. This message is the first two of four
problems. I have a PPA printer, the Deskjet 710C (flames to /dev/null,
please). I've been able to install and configure the PPA Ghostscript printer
filter just fine under printcap. It prints absolutely perfectly, color and
everything, while I'm under root. But when I try to print from my normal user
account, it chokes and does nothing. By what I can tell from the system logs, it
looks like there's a good 'ol permissions error in lpd or somewhere around
there. Any ideas here?

On the same track, sound under my SB Live is just fine. I can play CDs, play
MP3s, do MIDIs under Timidity (nice little program... good idea), and etc. But
none of the GNOME sound effects play under my regular account. Oddly enough, if
I log in as root, they play fine. Then if I relogin under my normal account,
they play. I'm suspecting some initialization problem in the GNOME sound
server. Ideas here also? FYI, I'm not running EsounD... that's a whole other set
of problems.

Any commments are appreciated!
