I, too, often download RPM's directly -- into my $HOME/RPMS directory.

urpmi will 'helpfully' tell me what dependencies are missing, and I 
then find and download the 'next' RPM into my $HOME/RPMS and append
it to my # urpmi file1.rpm file2.rpm ..... fileX.rpm  command in the
command buffer and try, try again.  :-)
