Well finally have my Mandrake 8.1 back up and running with the Reiser FS
file system installed. Seems to run fast enough for me.(no noticable
difference from ext2). Thanks for all the input..I feel better
knowing that this is a more stable fs to use.

I remember Civilme suggesting that XFS is a good way to go on a PC, so
that's what I'm using now. I have a somewhat faulty mobo, so every couple
weeks, it freezes up to the point where I have to cold boot, and with XFS
it boots up just as fast as it did when I was using ReiserFS. However, I

Running XFS here, Mandrake has done Xtensive, Xhuastive testing ;-) of all
the journalling file systems and XFS came in as the overall winner. Reiser
was meant to be faster but uses more disk space.

I have zero problems with XFS. My understanding is that XFS and ReiserFS are

Dear DAVEinDSM:
I left ext2 when going from 7.2 to 8.0 and then started Reiser
.. It'is now on M8.2 and works very well. It seems to be faster
than ext2 and is stable. Try it, you won't regret

My /etc/fstab line looks like this:
/dev/hda1 / reiserfs notail 1 1
You probably shouldn't be using ReiserFS for /, though. There are some known
problems with doing so, but I haven't noticed any (yet).

Hi.
I decided to reinstall LM 8.0 using Reiser FS partitions. It is
my understanding that this FS is more robust against accidental
system shutdowns than standard ext2 Linux partitions. In addressing
these questions, please keep in mind that I put higher value on
stability than on speed and effic
Hi!
I read a lot about Reiser and forgot the most. ;)
But there is one big advantage: You don't have to go through partition
checks anymore, it won't even have to check them if you have accidently
switched off your computer without shutting it down.
Cheers!

Hi!
I saw in the list mails about a new filesystem called Reiser. I am
thinking install Mandrake 7.2 in my workstation: 256 Mb RAM, 30 Gb HD
and AMD K7-800.
I would appreciate if someone can tell me if I must use Reiser or
ext2. Which are Reiser benefits?

My Italian is not good enough to answer in your language.
The Reiser fs keeps copies of data before writing new data,
so it can be restored to some semblance of usefulness after
a disk crash (due to power loss, etc.) It's supposed to be
a little slower, but if you have to fsck, it's supposed to
