Hi all,
I'm having trouble connecting to SWAT (http://localhost:901). From Mozilla
it actually tries to connect to www.localhost.com and times out and from
Konqueror I get the following error message:
An error occured while loading http://localhost:901/:
Connection to host localhost is broken
Old habits die hardthe first way I learned to restart a service (when I
first started admining a linux box back in 1997), was by typing
'/etc/rc.d/init.d/service_name restart'. You can of course, also use
'service service_name restart'.

so you would do a /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinet restart instead of service xinet
restart?

hello,
i was looking in the "services" section of the mandrake control center and
both swat and telnet are set to automatically start when the machine boots.
i went hmmm when i saw that the services were stopped. i clicked on the
start button and it said it couldnt find swat. same for telne
You should not need to edit any files to get SWAT working.
So long as the xinetd daemon is running, the samba package is installed, and
the host table contains the entry '127.0.0.1localhost', then you should be
able to run SWAT
Can you run the web interface for CUPS and Webmin? (localhost:63
Here we go again =)
I can't connect to swat...
Here's the first problem
Not sure what is suppose to be in my "xinetd.conf" file...
Something to the effect of
swat stream tcp nowait.400
after 400 is where I get lost. Every install doc I read has something
different after 400
usually a path.
Hello:
I just installed swat. Have you made sure the proper entries were made in
the xinitd.conf and services file?

Dexter

It works for me logging in as root. Check
Hi gang
When trying to start SWAT I get the log on screen asking for a username and
password. However nothing I enter allows me access.
I have tried as root and as a user, but to no avail.
Is there a trick to this.

Hi all,
I using Mandrake 8.0. I have just updated from samba 2.0.9 to samba
2.0.10 using MandrakeUpdate. After updating, I could no longer use swat.
I get the following error messages
Konqueror: "connection to host localhost broken"
Netscape: "document contain no data"
lynx: "Alert! unexpected
)
then swat must work.
(open your browser and try "http://localhost:901" )

You might try http://127.0.0.1:901 or at the prompt type in:
ping myMachine
(replace myMachine with the name you gave the machine, possibly localhost)
then use the IP address that ping gives you for SWAT with the :901 appended.

i'm trying to set up swat, to use with samba. on linuxnewbie.org, it tells
me to use my favorite browser, and type in http://192.168.0.1:901, which
should prompt for a username and password to access swat. but it doesn't.
i get an error say that the connection was reset by pee
Does anybody here knows where do I get my SWAT for Mandrake 6.0 and how do
I install it
Thanks
