Has anyone run into this with Samba 3.0.2? I'm running a dual-CPU server ( Tyan board with Dual-1800+ Athlon MP CPU's and 1 GB DDR Ram), with Samba on it ( and that's about all ) for 5 PC's in a network. The shares are browseable by most, but it takes a long time for the shares to show up.

Network connections are good, as I have no problem browsing anything else on the network, and Email and Internet activity is fast through my Front-End Firewall Server.

The server is running Mandrake 9.2 and has been flawless until I updated Samba from 2.2.8a to the current version. Even after the upgrade it was running pretty fast. Ping time from the PC's to the server does not exceed 1 ms, so it doesn't seem to be a network card or config problem on the server which is running dual 3Com 3C905 onboard NIC's.

I've set up the lmhosts file in Linux and Windows on the PC's, as well as on the server but browsing to this particular server takes about 30 to 40 seconds for each folder that gets opened.

It seems to be a bit slower on the Windows XP Pro systems than it is on Linux using SMB4K or LinNeighborhood ( which says something all by itself ), and the documentation I've found is either useless or has no mention of this type of problem.

Thoughts? Ideas?
