Apparently, they are not installed because I did waht you suggested and
it just kept returning to the prompt. I did a file find for postgre*
and php* and nothing came up as well. Anyway, I went to the Postgres
and PHP websites and downloaded a Mandrake i586.rpm for postgres and a
tar.gz for PHP.

i'm still learning linux, but from what i understand Mandrake is based on the Red Hat
system and that most red hat rpms will work for mandrake. however, it has also been
said on this list that it is best to use mandrake rpms when you can. so i would
suggest look for the mandrake
