Well, I don't know much about the Toshiba, but you could try to send your

picky about things like that (not me , of course!)

I have installed Mandrake 8.0 on a notebook Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 but I have problems configuring the X Window. I have a Trident Cyberblade card. Basically, the KDE appears much smaller than the screen size.

Yes, you are right there is another problem. Apparently when I let the

partition and then the Xserver died. I now have to figure out how to

I've got a S3 Trio3D in an IBM Netfinity 3000 that I have never got to
work in anything but 1024x768 Frame Buffer mode, and unfortunately I fiddled
with /etc/lilo.conf one to many times without an emergency disk and had
to re-install Mandrake 7.1. It has never worked again even though I followed

I tried Xconfigurator and was unable to bring up the Xserver. I have a S3
Trio 3D/2X video card and Linux seems to have a problem with it. I guess this
answers the question of should I upgrade. Hopefully 7.1 will support S3
better. Or maybe I should get a new card. The AGP slot is easy to swap out
I lost my Xwindow again. The common thread seems to be Star Office.

Have you tried setting down to 16-bit colors? Often 24-bit does mean
things to a screen, I heard. 16 bit or 32 bit is much better supported,
and I would not go 32bit with that little videoram. Not even on 4mb!

My guess is that you are already over driving the video chip...hence the drop
out of color on some Icons, 2 MB of vid ram is not much for that large a
display (1024x768x24bit).
just a thought

This is just an example... see above where it says "ViewPort 0 0"... that's
the virtual desktop of NONE, so there is no virtual desktop. If you already
have that line - experiment with it... even try commenting it out.
Good Luck.
Hi...I have a IBM TP600 running Mandrake 7.02, 96MB RAM, 6GB HD, 2M

unsure of other details...but I can check if asked specifically...
I am looking to see if there's a way to increase the number of colors

Hi to everybody!!!
Sorry for my terrible English. Russian is my native language.

I can't correctly configurate X-Window.
Interesting fact:

i already drop the color depth to 16bit and when i used redhat 6.1 it
seems alright, no problemo...
is it possible that i have to change my XF86 to the latest release?

Hmmm... You should be good. I would, however, recommend upgrading to 64Mb
at least. Also, drop your color depth to 16bit. I have quite a bit of

There's two parts to X: the server (the display unit, the machine you're
sitting at) and the client (the programs that connect to the X server to
display their output). Telnet opens a session so you can run programs,
but you're not necessarily running an X Server which can accept display
output.
I have read some information about x window being a server and client
program. I was under the impression the server and client could exist on
seperate computers. Is it possible to access a machine across a network
as root running K desktop and x windows? I clearly do not fully
understand how

I crash the KDE so hard that the only option I had was to reset my PC.
(After waiting 30 minutes) I got the login screen of the X window.
The login screen was changed (not the standard mandrake login) and had only
one login option left (the KDE environment).
Before the crash I had about 7 login op
