Hi, after some time I finally got around to try again to change my X settings, so that I can have a resolution of 1024x768 on my thinkpad.
I want to make a presentation with Staroffice. But the beamer only allows a 1024x768 resolution. This is what I tried so far: -Alt+Ctrl+-/+ only changes to 1280x1050 (and has a virtual Desktop which is useless for a presentation, since starting the presentation in full screen mode only shows part of the presentation) -Xdrakres/Xfdrake: I come as far as setting the resolution to 1024x768. I restart X ... then it just shows me 1600x1200 again. -with "startx myXFree86Config-4" or "startx -- -xf86config myXFree86Config-4": I get ... 1600x1200. In myXFree86Config-4 in Section "Screen", subsection "Display" I deleted all other subsections and only left this: Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" ViewPort 0 0 EndSubsection Now I have come to an end with what else I could try. I don't understand how the Xserver is loaded and where it always gets the resolution of 1600x1200 from. Why are there two Config Files (XFree86Config-4 and XFree86Config)? Does anybody know how to change the resolution to 1024x768 _without_ a virtual Desktop? Is there a good explanation for X and the Config Files? Thank you, Patrik I have Mandrake 8.2 which runs XFree86 Version 4.2.0.
