[newbie] kppp.pid file error?

When I click on the "Internet" icon in KDE, I get an error message saying that kppp has detected a kppp.pid file. It also tells me that another instance of kppp seems to be running under process-ID 803. It tells me to delete the pid file and restart kppp. I can su to root and kill process 8
