Yes. It uses checksumming to verify the integrity of your files. Put it in the
Robert,
at the command promt type:
md5sum filename
where filename is the name of the downloaded file you wish to check. This
will spit out a character string, which should match what is in the md5sums
file, which is a text file.
hope I helped, and didn't confuse!

To check the md5sums on the iso:
md5sum mandrake80-inst.iso
md5sum mandrake80-ext.iso
To chect the md5sums on the burned cd:
md5sum /dev/cdrom
The dev(ice) in the above statement can be determined by looking at the
/etc/fstab file to see where the cd reader is mounted.

I downloaded the L-M8 ISOs today, burned them to CD, and tried

the ISOs are corrupted.

s,
It sounds like there is a good chance you have a bad iso (because of
your problems with reinstalling).
When I downloaded mandrakefreq-i586-20010316.iso, there was another file
named mandrakefreq.md5sum. That second file is a text file containing
the md5sum for the iso. Run the command md5su
I'm glad someone else asked about this. :-)
I ran this last night before install, I didn't get errors or warnings, but
the numbers (output) didn't match. I typed: /usr/bin/md5sum *
in the directory where I downloaded them and got three long numbers for the
files (inst-iso, ext-iso, md5sum).
Dwight,
I don't think anyone else responded, so I'll take a stab at it.
Are you concerned about whether the file containing the md5sums is
authentic, or about whether the md5sum of the iso you downloaded is
correct (matches the md5sum in the text file you are talking about)?
The second is simpl
Ok, this file appears to be a text file, and it says it is sums for ISO's to
ensure they are all correct. The only problem is I haven't been able to find
out how you test it to verify this string. Anyone got that info?
Take Care, Dwight

Hello,
I have downloaded the ISO files for 7.2. I
would like to verify that the md5sums code is correct on the ISO
files.
Is there a program available that I can run under
Windows/98 to do this verification.
Thanks, Charlie
