i tried su'ing to root, even logging in as root, but couldn't access the
mdr ctrl ctr. fortunately, 9.0rc1 was a clean install (not upgrading a
system currently is use), so i'll use 8.2 until 9.0 final is released.

Does this happen when in Gnome or any other Window Manager other than KDE, but
KDE works OK? And do you get the same symptom when trying to open any other
'drak' tool?

That happens to me, too. My feeling is that it's a result of one
of two things: 1) Upgrading to KDE 3.0.2, or 2) messing with
Ximian Gnome before there were Mandrake-specific RPMs available.
I can still run the M. Control Center from a terminal after I
su to root, so I'm just waiting for 9 final
i installed 9.0rc1 and tried accessing "mandrake control center". after
inputting the root pw, the dialog box for mandrake control center
disappears and nothing happens.
anyone know why this might be happening?
