ok used drakwizard to configure samba. they are all on same network -- now called "NETWORK". i have disabled sharing of home directories for users. i dont know what to write in the permissions part for windows to allow any user from windows to read/write to any file/directory on the universally shared samba share dir. I can see Samba on my XP machine but when i try to login it says "another machine on network with same name) which doesn't make sense to me as only machine running samba is my linux box. I put the linux box in DMZ mode to make sure there were no port problems. out of clues here. if i can get it to work, this would have been much easier than doing it all manually which caused me alot of heartache.
