Just re-installed 7.2 in expert mode. I had tried to use lilo and it wouldn't time out, but that's another story. During the install, I set up a modem connection, entering the 2 DNS addresses for my server - earthlink.net, leaving the Domain name blank. Launching Kppp via the 'internet' icon on the desktop, it connects, or seems to, with 8 packets received/sent, then nothing. That's from the details part. I tried checking the DNS box at the bottom, unchecking and going to manual, but no-go. I've got Linux on the laptop ok and set it up in the same fashion. I read the HOW-TO's but it wasn't necessary with the laptop, and naturally thought the desktop would be similiar. In fact, some time ago, I did actually connect to the net with the desktop, but don't know how that happened! I then 'upgraded' from 7.1 to 7.2 and it never happened again! Even tried to install 7.1 but to no avail! On the desktop, I have not yet gone thru the methods of the HOW-TO, this time anyway, I had done it previously but it was a no-go. I've looked at the message log, but there's nothing of substance there either. BTW, I've tried to look for the sources to Opera but couldn't find them on the opera web site. I do see they are selling a Linux version. I like it on windows!! Thanks all! pete
