I thought I've chosen all the same information on startup, but there's one
difference on the 2nd machine I need to get working.

I know this should be so simple, but Mandrake just doesn't get it.

should. On installation I have 2 nics. eth1 is for a nic I plan to use in
the future, but it's not connected for now. During install I specified to

Ok, this is so bad it hurts.
I'm trying to load Mandrake 8.0 on an older box (an aging 75mhz
Pentium), to set up as a firewall box.
I've run Linux on it in the past, but it's been retired for a year or
so.
Anyway. I have to boot it from a floppy (it won't boot from a CD). So I

Is this normal?

Have you tried using "sndconfig" on your sound card? That card is definitly
supported, and it's odd that it doesn't work.

Actually, I don't have a problem with SC, because I didn't install LILO into the MBR.
SC boots up fine and finds the Linux ext partition, and can boot to that partition.
The problem that I'm having is the LILO boot. I saw that someone else on the newbie
list out there is having the same problem
If you have the boot utility disk (you should have made it installing system
commander ) just boot from the floppy. This will tell SC the computer's new
configuration and SC will be reset. This way you will see if there is any
problem with LILO or GRUB and if the partitions are bootable.
