For some unknown reason the ML8.1 installer does not install the package
unzip by default.
Just install the rpm from your disc and archiver will then work with .zip
files.

Have you tried mc (Midnight Commander) from a console, or gmc from X? I
just select an archive, hit and it lets me peek inside any
archive (*.zip, .*rpm, etc)

Hope That Helps
Hi,
Thanks to all. Archiver needed 'zip' in order to work. Rest assured that I
can use the CLI but I just wanted to be able to see inside an archive quickly.
In any case, thanks to all once again,

Hi,
I did the rpm -qa and it appears that unzip, gzip, bzip and libbzip are all
installed.
When I click on a zip file it opens archiver but archiver returns the 'not
in your path' error.
I do not know how to check if something is, or isn't 'in my path'. newbie
thing

unzip is installed in /usr/bin, and /usr/bin should already be in
your path. Is it actually installed ? Try 'rpm -qa | grep zip'
to find out.
