Y'all have been a great help in isolating my X probs - As it turns out, the
problem seems to be VMWare related (I neglected to mention that I was running in
a virtual machine because I thought it was irrelevent) - after several gyrations
and major snafu's, I ended up re-installing Linux complete

Okay, now I have Linux running without X - now how do I fix X? Is there an

way to uninstall X, then re-install it from the Mandrake CD? (or
