But I said "The connection works in XP"

Thanks to everyone for your helpful responses! I feel a little better
informed now, I'll write back in a few weeks when I get the service started.

Actually, setting up DSL for linux is much much easier than setting up that freakin'
KPPP. As far as your connectivity with DSL.
You can go a couple of routes. The first option (which I prefer) is to get a couple
of static IP addresses from your ISP. One for
each of your machines. The second
I am running adsl on Mandrake with a little help from a
software package I picked up called Babylon 1.4
With the service I have it's threw Sympatico High Speed
and we cannot plug the modem into the hub it won't work!
They also use a custom connection threw " There dialer"
but they will not sup

Scrap the Linux-Mandrake and get yourself RedHat. Once it's installed,
you'll notice that, at boot, eth0 won't fail. Once that's done, open a
console and type "dhcpcd -DH" and th

I constabtly use Win95 and NT for everything. I also disagree that only
linux is for people who want to "know" their machines. I find NT the best
overall OS, even though it's more expensive.

Sorry, I don't know anything about
ADSL as yet, but your last remark needed a response! It is true that Windoze is
easier to set up than Linux. It is designed for people who are not interested in
the computer, but only the things the computer can do. Linux on the other hand
is designed by co

What DSL modem/router did you order?
Also what mode will you be running in? PPP or Bridging.
Hopefully it is an external router that you have coming. If it is a PPP
USWest account, I can help you get it up and running using the Cisco
external they offer, and connecting it to your hub..
Good luc
