I suppose you'll have to recompile the kernel selecting that option...

Hi Dennis!
I tried what you suggested but the card doesn't get recognised (no +). I was
thinking maybe I could get it compiled into the kernel somehow. Does that
make sense? I tried to do that too, but when I type "make menuconfig" I get
a reply "no rule ... blah, blah, blah". I've never been abl

You should be able to get it recognized and install using harddrake. If
in KDE click on DrakeConf and then click on the HardDrake button. If in
text console, do an su and then typ
well if you're using patches from kernel.org it might be that they aren't

is after you've configured a kernel, "save and exit" (on make xconfig)
I hope that this gives you some sort of an idea, but I'm sure there are many
Hello, you've got to open an xterm, go to the
directory
/usr/src/linux and give this command:
make xconfig
This opens a tcl/tk interface where you can put extra
options to your Kernel, once you've finished save &
exit.
Be careful because if you do something wrong your
machine won't start t
Well, if you do "make xconfig" you can see all the options that you have now,
and then change them if you want. And I think "make oldconfig" will keep all
your old options, and only ask you for input if there is something new in the
kernel.

http://www.pcworld.com/heres_how/article/0,1400,13702,00.html is a really good

Yes, you can strip the needless features from it. Check out this page for
help: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/compiling/kernelcomp.html
In addition to the commands used on that page, you can try:
"bzlilo" - another automated lilo updater.
"make install" - moves bvImage and System.Map an

wow, this is the first i have ever heard of
I ran Mandrakes Update to go to 2.2.16. It automatically downloaded both
files and
installed them without any problems. I don't recall which order it ran the
install. Wish
I could be of more help.

It sounds like you may have trun off/left off some dependent features
elsewhere in the configuration. I don't knwo what dependencies exist for
USB, I don't use it...But do a make clean and try over checking all
services... maybe turning off and on only limited services to test the
compile until y
Yep, make those soft links. A flashing red link means that the link is broken,
and that it doesn't point to an existing file. So once you fix those links LILO
should work just fine.

Thanks for pointing out the June 24 2000 security update info.

Is your /etc/lilo.conf 's image statement pointing to the right kernel? Also, check
what /boot/vmlinuz links to.

2.3.xx is beta.
All odd numbers are beta:
2.2.14
z.y.xx
xx == Release version, it just increments, get the highest one.
yy == Major version, get the even numbers, right now it's 2. Hopefully soon
we'll see 2.4.xx. (If you've got an older computer, you may want to go with
2.0.xx)
z == Really Maj
