This happened to me - there appears to be a mandrake bug. In /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit there is section at the end which modifies /etc/X11/XF86Config to change the keyboard layout depending on what the environmental variable LANG is set to. On my system LANG never got set, so mandrake munged my keybo
