In Gnome Control Centre, Sawfish Window Manager, Appearance.
You can set the "columns and rows" to 1 and 1, and set the workspace to 1.
on the Edge Flipping tab de-select the "Select next desktop when the pointer
hits screen edge."
Hope this helps!

So how do you disable the virtual desktop setting in Sawfish and Gnome?
José A. Mirles
What are you running, KDE? Enlightenment? Each one has different places to
disable the virtual desktop settings. As far as the monitor goes, run
Xconfigurator from a terminal and you should be able to set things up there.
Make sure you manually pick your resolution and color settings though. I
never mind my last emailgot it figured it out now for the most part,
'cept for the resolution
thanks,
