doesn't anyone read the friggin HCLs anymore? I can't believe how many
times folks will sit here on the list and discuss, argue, and exchange
tidbits about modems for Mandrake when there is a very clear list of
modems that "are" supported by this particular distribution of Linux.
In case there is

Hi Marcia,
When you say your computer had(has) LinuxM7.2 I'm assuming you mean Linux
Mandrake 7.2, right? And then you also have Suse 7... ok, now I have
never tried Suse, and I'm pretty new to Mandrake, but why do you need
both? I would just pick one and concentrate on getting that one work

There's another one at www.compgeeks.com - can't remember brand, but they've
tested and found it works A-OK.
Dear All,
I installed Suse 7 a couple of days ago and it was sharing my computer
with LinuxM7.2.Something I did in there made it impossible to boot back
into Linux7.2. I had to reinstall Linux 7.2 Also, I made the mistake of
trying to setup my internet in Suse and I think it stole my serial por

O, sorry...I should of explained better
you're right...I should of said, that "MOST"
all external modems will work, provided they are
ISA's with jumpers. However, with the new kernels
coming out...they are supporting more usb's,and for that
matter, alot of PCI's

what are the specs
what kind of BIOS (manufacturer, year etc.)
check inside bios settings for a onboard com2 setting
it might be turned offso that com1 would work for the
modem.

I found an internal modem that works with Linux. It is a "ActionTec 56K
Internal PCI Call Waiting Modem". On the box it says it supports Linux
and was under $70 at WalMart. I had my doubts but I bought it to try it
and I'm using it right now. I have had no problems with it at all. I
have not tried

this is the first time...I've ever heard of a modem hooked
up as com1
the mouse is supposed to use com 1...try setting it up on
com2 and I
bet it works

Hi
Victor,
I'm
getting the same "modem is busy" message in Linux-mandrake7.1. I believe the
reason to be because I have a "soft" modem which is not supported by Linux O.S.
Like you I'm a complete newbie [only 18 months with Windows 98] and the only
solution that occurs to me is to change
