But if you use an Excel spreadsheet, be prepared to receive pretty much
anything in return. My clients routinely save it in weird formats, add columns
to it to use it in-house, etc. If you have the political leverage, kick these

I had to do this in the past, data was sent from many sources , each
source would send a csv file with a pre determined format as an email
attachment, these were then pooled into a common directory and process
en-masse.
