Just dabbling around with this suggests either I've missed something, or
that we need quite a large sample size before the asymptotics are any
use. If this is of any use I'll double check on N.

d be grateful for any advice. I've tried passing several
combinations of functions to upper.panel and lower.panel but either
they're the wrong function or I'm barking up the wrong tree entirely.
