when using -net ?

Thanks to all who helped. My problem turned out to be that the
SCSI card was conflicting. And, one that perplexes me still, I had
to use the new serial cable even though the old one worked when I
took it out of the system. Between those two fixes and adding the
mem line again, it all works.
That's a negative...no staroffice environ var's at all. It's funny,
because when I've searched for an answer to this, I've just found a
couple of other people asking the same thing...no answers yet, though.

1. If this is an intel 430TX chipset based board then you're never going to
be able to cache more than 64Mb of your RAM. There is a performance hit in
this uncached memeory; and it's one of the reasons that I've stuck to my ASUS

Yes, I did get a solution to the problem, but I cannot take credit
for it. Alas, I've absent-mendedly lost the name of the person
who sent me the fix.

THE FIX:
The issue is that the IP is attempting to be reverse
I tried this with one workstation and it cleared up the problem from that
workstation right away. That seems to be the problem in a nutshell.
I'm still wondering, though, if there's some other way to discourage the box
from doing a reverse lookup for each IP. I really don't want to have to ente

I also noticed that there is no hesitation when 5.0 was installed on the

I think if you add the the client hostnames/ip addresses to /etc/hosts on
the target box it will help as long as target box /etc/resolv.conf allows
for hosts before bind

Any idea how to keep it from doing this? Most of our machines (win95) are
configured with IP only and don't have fqdn's associated with them through
DNS. Is there a way that you know of to avoid the name lookups?

I get that several times when I telnet to certain accounts at college. If
you have an external modem, you would notice that your computer keeps
sending packets for a response and there is no response for a long time.
I don't know the true explanation for this hang up, I'm not a network
