I don't really follow the reasoning of the article, but it reminds me
that Sage is an easier project than Open Office.   Sage is a
programming language, so every serious Sage user is a programmer who
can genuinely contribute to the project.   And most Sage users are
either academics or students, so are in a good position to contribute
to Sage, since they are not constrained by anti-publication contracts
like most people in industry.
