I have set up a Linux server to back up the PCs on our LAN. The PCs run
Win2K proand WinXP. I've used Samba version 3.0.10, which comes with Ubuntu
5.04, together with smbmount to mount the Windows shares on the Linux box,
and rsync into the backup directory from there.

I think I've narrowed down my problem to the fact that the group mapping is
not giving me the same GID for all 'equivalent' groups, as seen here:
$ net groupmap list
DOMAIN\Group1 (S-1-5-21-620321403-24207062-1845911597-172256) -> unixgrp1

unixgrp1:x:203:

We are using the samba that come with RHEL 4 U2 as a PDC. Recently we
found out that the roaming profile will generate a lot of funny funny
icon, other users docs and files and the login become extremely slow.

that have mapped a drive to the Samba share the Total Size and Free Space

I am using a Samba 2.2.7 Server installed on a box with embedded linux
(NSLU2 from Linksys). After I copied lots of files from my
lan-workstation running xp pro to the box I discovered that samba does
the sorting wrong.
When I nomally open a samba share (sorted alphabetically) on my pc
with xp

For example I want the backup server to scan the endusers machines for
shared windows drives so that when ever a user shares a drive named
sharedname_backup that will then be mounted by the backup server at
night and backed up.
