I'd suggest just a simple switch.
As the win2k FTP service is inherently insecure, I have never used it,
but working primarily with security, I have found the perfect
combination is WARFTPD (free) and CuteFTP as the client (or command line
works great if no money need be spent).. Hope this helps
Yeah both could be true, and maybe even if someone is portscanning your entire I.P
block, which is probably not all owned by you or something.
It's not necessary that all ports be scanned, some hackers scan only those ports on
which services run which are exploitable by their tools.
Like portmap
I agree with Chris , though it could be someone scanning for anonymous ftp
servers , is it one ip? multiple ip addresses?

This could be someone using a password cracker. Trying many logins and not
waiting for them to finish. Doesn't sound like a port scan if it is only
FTP.
When I first read your subject, I thought you were talking about an old
trick we used to play on people in college. We would place the logout

Sorry for my last post. I missed the http part of it. Perhaps you
were thinking of Dan Berstein's publicfile? It's a minimal ftp/http
server that was designed with security being a priority just like his
other programs (qmail, djbdns, etc.).

Is it vsftp that you're thinking of?
If so, do a search for it on freshmeat.net and you'll find it.

Hi,
If you need a good and secure ftp server, try proftpd (www.proftpd.net). If
you need a HTTP server, I recommend you apache (www.apache.org). And yes, I
think OpenBSD/FreeBSD are both a good choice as OS (if you can do that, use
a machine as HTTP server and use another machine as FTP server).
