Mr. Still

Thanks for sending me this information. I want to make sure that you have all
the information regarding the timing of what has been proposed.
Only club models submitted to the USGA for conformance evaluation after Jan.
2010 would be required to have the proposed new grooves.
Clubs not meeting the new groove requirements could be used as conforming clubs
until 2020 – nearly 13 years from now.
Only in “expert” competition events would the proposed condition of competition
apply earlier than 2020, “Expert” means that is intended for such things as
the PGA Tour and USGA national championships. It could be put in place as
early as 2009 for these events, and that is the choice of the event organizers.
The USGA, for example, would likely adopt the condition in 2009 for only the
U.S. Opens (men’s, ladies, senior - and only if the Tours also adopted it in
2009). Other USGA national championship events would likely adopt the
condition in later years.

These terms are all proposed terms. We are interested in receiving people’s
opinions about them.

Sincerely
Dick Rugge

Senior Technical Director
United States Golf Association

What am I supposed to sell next year. Idoubt that suppliers will "legal" heads
out next year. Will customers want to buy my inventory next year when they will
be non conforming in 2009?What will happen to all the clubs made over the past
5-10 years.
Will a golfer want to spend $1200. for a set that will be illegal in less than
2 years?
