[RCSE] Glass over Spackling?

2001-08-19 Thread Jim Miller
I need to do some filling of an edge which is rough (nomex honeycomb). Outer surfaces are CF. Structure is an annulus. I need it to be lightweight. I was thinking of Red Devil lightweight spackling to fill the voids then covering it with 1oz glass with epoxy. Any thoughts on this combo? tnx j

What I do is to first (if I'm building) try to get the incidence and cg to what the plan says. Then I toss it to make sure it's controllable. If so, I launch, and trim for cruising speed (i.e. a little faster than minimum). Then I dive test, and adjust so it pulls out slowly. The dive test is also

Wrongo Gordy... Nashville did... It was boiling in the notch at the dam today. Massive lift. It had to be massive I even thermalled a foamie 1-63 Komet... But glad you had some good stuff in H'ville anyway... you gonna be at the Lexington contest next weekend?? >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >T

One thing I'm curious about...we hear about how these tests are done at high alt. to simulate the thin Martian atmosphere, but I was wondering how, if it all, they simulate the lower Martian gravity. I think the gravity on Mars is 1/2 or 1/3 Earths, so presumably, if the test plane were flying ab

I believe in an iterative process. I use CG position to manage the stability of the plane. The further back the less stable the plane will be. With a new plane I start with a fairly stable CG and then start moving it back as become more comfortable with the plane. An important decision is what

I sold mine because I didn't like it. For the large receiver packs that we use, being limited to 1A across the four "chargers" was unacceptable. -B Red Scholefield wrote: > > Lots of discussion on chargers etc. Some take issue with the delivery cycle > for the Alpha 4 and the way it is market

[RCSE] The infamous dive test

2001-08-19 Thread Dave M
So what comes first the chicken or the egg, or in this case C/G of incidence? Do you pick a spot for the C/G and shim the wing to fly at neutral elevators (V-Tail) to get a nice cruse speed, or set an incidence and move the C/G to get a hands off neutral elevator? How do you determine where the

Boy, did I see a dive test today, where it just continued to dive, as the pilot was screaming, "where's my plane", at the same instant I heard this high pitched flutter/scream behind me, and turned to see what it was, THUD at terminal velocity.  He was 38 minutes into his 1 hour LSF thermal fli
