Jim I use the above battery for retrieving my winch line at the end
of the flying session. I have a Tim McCann winch and I find the 12
volt battery a bit daunting when reeling in the line when the day is
done. The 6 volt battery is perfect for this task and I must say
much safer. I think it might just fill the bill for what you want
the battery for. Back in the early 80"s I bought a winch from a
company in Idaho(I think) that had 3 solenoids and a 3 position foot
pedal which allowed for 6 volt, 9 volt and 12 volts depending on how
far you pushed the pedal down. It was perfect for different types of
planes and I still have it and always liked the idea of reeling in
the line at the end of the day at 6 volt speed. Maybe, someone on
the exchange will remember the name of this winch. I know there was
an ad in the National Soaring Society magazine back then.
