Hi all,
Just thought I would post about a great soaring day here in balmy
Chicago. Sunday arrived with sunny skies and high of 27 degrees! Winds
out of the NE 10 to 15 mph. I called my friend Don Woelfel and said lets
go to the local field I will bring my winch. It was about 1:00 and one
power flyer was packing it in. I proceeded to launch my trusty Victory C
right into a thermal for a 12 minute ride. Back to Don's car to warm up
the fingers back up normal operating temperature. The next flight was
even better as I worked several thermals following them downwind way over
the trees till I had to come back through the cold windy(sinky) air. Each
time I thought I was almost done I would find some more lift; one time at
about 50 feet and worked it back up to above 1,000 feet. This flight
lasted over 20 minutes and my fingers were getting numb and stinging so I
brought it down.
It sure felt good to be in the air and working thermals again.I know it's
going to be a long cold Winter here but as long as the sun is shining
there is usually lift and I will be out flying if the Snow isn't to deep!
See you in lift,
Karl Miller
Did Don just stay in the car and have a few smokes watching you fly? 8-)
