I've just started puttering with electric, but here is my 2c: What prop pitch are you using? If you go up a notch or two on pitch, your top speed (and rpm) will decrease and thrust increase. Would a gearbox work? Lower RPM, greater torque. One excellent electric reource is the e-Zone at http://www.ezonemag.com/ with discussion forums at http://www.ezonemag.com/cgi-bin/disc/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true . --Bill On Sun, 11 Jun 2000 12:47:28 -0700 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Okay, this is more electric related then soaring..... Last night I tached the prop on my stock, 8-cell Zagi 400, and found that it was turning at a rather suprising 15,200rpm on a full charge. Well, maybe I shouldn't be suprised, since the thing actuall SCREAMS. Seriously, for an electric, it is loud. I have small glow engines that don't turn props at these rpms. So, what I was thinking was that a larger diameter of similar pitch might be in order. Since the RPM is so high right now, I figure a 6 or 7 inch diameter prop would reduce the rpm buy a few thousand and increase the climibing performace. As it is now, it scoots along at 40-50mph, but the climbing performance is not that great for aerobatics. It seems to me that sacrificing some top end for climb would be a good trade-off, especially when flying in small park area. To do this, I would need to trim a bit of foam and wood wing and elevons for prop clearance. I guess I will need some some sort of adapater to fit a bigger prop on that motor too. Has anyone tried anything like this? ____________________________________________________________________________ Brett Jaffee: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Brett's Slope and Power Home Page: http://home.earthlink.net/~jaffee OnTheWay Quake 2 server utility: http://www.planetquake.com/ontheway The Unoffical Extra 300 Home Page: http://www.bayarea.net/~nathan/extra300/ ____________________________________________________________________________ RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
