I wanted to do similar (well plug an ipod in at least) while on holiday,
I found the only way was to plug the yellow composite video from my
cyclone nano little media player at the same time, once the TV has a
video signal the corresponding audio inputs worked fine.

The vast majority of AVR's digitise all incoming analog signal anyway
,so there is only digital input for quality content analog is for legacy
stuff like your vcr .

I fixed the drift problem in two steps :
1/ A simple script /usr/bin/ntp.sh :
msntp -P no -r pool.ntp.org > /dev/null 2>&1
2/ A second script loop.sh :
nohup watch -n 86400 /usr/bin/ntp.sh > /dev/null 2>&1
Of course one should issue 'chmod +x' for each script.
Then typing 'loop.sh' will

Not really sure what really resolved the problem. Did as you suggested
removing contemporary and rescanned. Initially nothing changed but
after 2 more scans I now have all the albums tagged as audiophile
showing.

I'm using the Touch's internal server, my music collection resides on a
USB drive connected to the Touch.
