Some time ago I had my SS installed on general purpose NAS. I got exactly the same behavior of SB Receiver as you describe in times when the NAS was overloaded doing things other than streaming music. SS stopped responding resulting in break during playback then restarting the track after the communication was restored. So I guess network congestion/configuration is the purpose in your case also.
