Yes, I still watch Dancing with the Stars. And on last night's episode they added a new twist (actually two): The highest scoring couple of the night is immune from elimination tonight (Derek Hough & Kellie Pickler - after a tiebreaker); and the remaining couples faced a duo a duo dance off (40 seconds of one of three Latin dances). The format was simple: highest remaining couple could choose who they wished to dance off against, and the judges would decide which couple did it better. Winning couples got 3 points added to their score for the night.
Something about this bugged me, and I wondered why they would do this. Then it struck me - they want to get rid of Andy Dick. Here's why: consistently in the bottom two scoring couples each week Dick has moved on each week based, apparently, on the votes from the fans. This was all well and good while there were other dance-challenged performers around: (Dorothy Hamill (injury); Wynonna Judd; Lisa Vanderpump (RHOBH); D. L. Hughley; Victor Ortiz (Boxer)). Now look at who's left, in order of poorest dancer to best (IMHO): Sean Lowe The Bachelor star; Ingo Rademacher Soap Opera (General Hospital) actor; Alexandra Raisman Olympic Gymnast; Jacoby Jones NFL wide receiver; Zendaya Coleman Disney Channel star; Kellie Pickler Country music singer. And then there's Andy Dick, who might be the worst dancer among the bunch scoring 5 points less than the next lowest scoring couple last night before the "Dance Off". So what's the conspiracy theory? I believe DWTS and the ABC network tried to engineer a way to neutralize Andy Dick's fame, and therefore follower base, which might have kept him in the show longer than ABC stalwart The Bachelor star Lowe and ABC signature soap opera General Hospital star Rademacher (Zendaya Coleman of Disney is talented enough to win this thing on her own). So to ensure that Dick leaves tonight, they stacked the deck via a 3 point bonus. Being Disney/ABC related can get you on the show, and apparently they'll "innovate" new features to help you stay on it longer. Ron Casalotti Wayne, NJ -- -- TV or Not TV ....
