In an article in this week's issue of the BBC's listings mag the Radio Times, Nigella Lawson, who I'd call the Rachael Ray of the UK except that it would be an insult to Lawson, defends her last series from the rabidly anti-Beeb Tory tab the Daily Mail, who criticized her for allegedly shooting "at home" scenes at someone else's home and hiring a bus and extras for a scene by calling the Mail "dingbats" and saying that her show is a cooking show, not a documentary:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/dec/03/nigella-lawson-daily-mail-dingbats The relevant quote: "I felt like saying, 'Listen, dingbats, viewers are not idiotic'. When I say on TV, 'This cake takes 20 minutes to bake' and then one minute later it's ready, what do they think I have done? Do they think I have some kind of Time Lord qualities? "Would they prefer that I went on a real red bus and made everyone on it two hours late for their appointments while I got on and off for the third time because the lighting wasn't right? It's very odd, because I'm not making a documentary." It just happens that Lawson has a new, holiday-themed series of shows airing starting Dec. 15 on BBC2--but anyone who calls the bluff of the Mail is OK by me, especially since they wouldn't say a thing if the show was on any other non-BBC channel. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Like TV only smarter.
