Test locally on Kubuntu 24.04.1 with test plan above
Version berofe 6.7.2-1ubuntu2
hg verify before commit - all right
hg verify after commit - 3 errors
Enable proposed in software-properties-gtk
sudo apt update
sudo apt install mercurial/noble-proposed
Installed 6.7.2-1ubuntu2.2 over 6.7.2-1ubu
So this failed to build. I know Dave is working on it, but just a note
that the call for testing above is invalid.

Following on from the xz-utils code injection, it's clearly critical to
validate binary blobs, so I tried to do that and am recording what I
found here.

Urgh ... one of the required patches includes a binary for the test
suite. So, that's going to be fun to include. However, I don't see any
(simple) way around it given current versions of mercurial apparently
don't even produce the type of changelog necessary to demonstrate the
corruption.

I am not working on this. Sorry, I don't see the time efforts worth the benefit.
If somebody is fixing this, please also fix LP: #2076152, or we will have two
competing SRUs
