I have tested this bug with 2.6.33-020633rc8-generic and brightness
still will not change, even though the notification area says it is
changing.
it seems that the scripts that are being called are /etc/acpi/asus-brn-
down.sh and /etc/acpi/asus-brn-up.sh, they display the notification but
do not
I agree with buzz and can confirm that one still needs to insert the
keys needing the forced key release.
Also, the main reason why this bug was opened, the brightness does not
change and sadly the nvclock or smartdimmer method is not an option for
me (p560 has Intel GMA4500X)

This report still has some valid points. Although the 2.6.32 kernel now
supports the serio force_release sysfs node, the users of the samsung
p560 still have to insert which keys needs the forced key release. At
the moment i do not know of any database which handels those cases, do
you?

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

just to note that this is still not working in ubuntu karmic, although
it did work for a short time, another update messed it up again :)
