With wine from winhq's ppa, it is gone for wine at least. VMWare Player
3.0 and totem still do it.

are you using compiz there? could you disable it and test again? i've
seen a similar issue but only with compiz activated.

- it happens as soon as I start totem (see attached video)
- it happens with Wine
- it does not happen with VLC or MPlayer
