I get the same result on Toshiba Satellite A45-S120, Same graphics card
and rev. The only option from "Lucidi8xxFreezes" wiki that I could get
working was vesa. Not as fun as KMS, but can watch video in reduced
performance. And higher Compriz stuff is non existent (Wobble, Cube,
etc..).
