Also got the problem as Christophe, since my install of Kubuntu Oneiric:
sound come out through speakers and headphones. Never had problem on
previous release.

I've the same problem in a fresh install of oneiric : the sound is play on both
headphones and Loudspeakers.
No possibility to switch.
Like Colin, i install gnome-alsamixer. The box for headphone sense was
already active. If i blank it : no sound at all on both headphones and
Loudspeakers.

All I did to fix the issue was install gnome-alsamixer and x the box for
headphone sense...now to figure out why the alsa equalizer plug-in
doesn't appear.

I have this bug as well on my notebook with a fresh install of Natty w/ Unity &
Caompiz.
The audio menu in Natty says I have 1 input/ 1 output.
HP/Compaq nw8240 notebook.
ADI Soundmax Integrated audio.
