flickrfs still did not sync any sets. Tried on 12.10 and 13.04. Both

Eclipse not working in Ubun
According to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1274451 there
are no plans for Wayland to support running graphical applications as
root so that bug has been closed as WONTFIX. The correct fix is for
Synaptic, and other graphical apps needing root, to be rewritten to run
the GUI as a norma

"GEdit now (on Gnome 3.24) has a mode where it can transparently edit
files with root permissions without running as root."
However I've not been able to find any trace of that in the GEdit
included with Ubuntu 17.10

That's because with xhost set, apps fall back to using XWayland. At some
point in the future XWayland will disappear and this hack will no longer
work.

Some more details to my previous comment #9...
While installing the 16.10/Yakkety nvidia-340_340.96-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb
did get the Nvidia driver working, as shown by the Nvidia logo before
the desktop appears, there must have been something slightly amiss about
the installation.

maybe the live OS thinks its a CD and is attempting to write from CD
causing the input/output error maybe the pathways are incorrectly
labelled?

error 5 input/output error when trying to install 32bit ubuntu mate from
usb to hard disk. error occurs whilst copying files. says problem with
cd drive but im not using the bloody cd i dontknow why this is happening

I think I am also affected by this.
In a live Ubuntu 16.04 (and 16.04.1) session I cannot get the tor service
running due to some apparmor restrictions (see dmesg logs someone else posted).
The updated apparmor profiles did not really fix my situation...

I do something like this now:
sudo cp system_tor /etc/apparmor.d/system_tor
sudo cp tor /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/tor
sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/system_tor
sudo apt-get install tor
It's a fine workaround.
