[Bug 2083589] Re: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster
Just passing by to state I don't see in debian sid a package that could be cockpit-ha-cluster or similar, yet. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2083589 Title: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cockpit/+bug/2083589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2083589] Re: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster
Follow ups: 1. John is right: the cockpit-ha-cluster neds to be packaged in Debian if we would like to use it in Ubuntu. The fedora source package for pcs has a binary for it, and another one for the standalone web UI (which you miss in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcs/+bug/2080891). Looking at the specfile there, they are actually packaging the separate upstream code for both solutions, which Debian does not do. 2. Even if Ubuntu will assume cockpit as the new way to consume the pcs web UI, that's still needs to be packaged somewhere. And this is where (4) above makes sense: while no pcs GUI component will be added to questing, 26.04 *may* have one of the options, if someone creates the deb package for it. 3. See explanation in #2080891 - that's the support for the web-ui, which is present in all debian and ubuntu builds. This also makes (5) above less useful for this discussion. > what has happened is that an existing functionality (pcsd web gui) suddenly is gone with no replacement (cockpit?). Yep, and that was an upstream decision, which Debian followed. Personally speaking I think it's a good idea to provide some GUI at some point in time, and we wish to do that, hence wishlist. There is no commitment to do that yet, hence not any other status. The cockpit plugin is one of two options, not a natural replacement, and choosing one over the other will follow rationale about what is easier to package and maintain in the long term. ** Changed in: pcs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2083589 Title: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cockpit/+bug/2083589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2083589] Re: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster
thomas-sthlm : there are a couple points 1. the missing cockpit-ha-cluster needs packaged and included. if i'm understanding the Debian project side of cockpit, the plugins are packaged separately and either recommended or required. I think a first step will be getting cockpit-ha-cluster packaged into Debian 2. the choice to deprecate pcsd web gui was made in the upstream project, and debian didn't follow. the `wishlist` item has more to do with `cockpit` support as the "official" Web UI for `pcs`. Ubuntu hasn't made that determination 3. it looks like `pcs` in Debian @ 0.12.0 is adding the optional `--enable-webgui`. I have not checked the final artifacts from that yet. 4. from a general standpoint, while it is a functional change, it was not deemed a regression. Putting it on wishlist was making it bubble up for next release to make an official determination of supporting `cock;it`. But with `pcs=0.12.0` in Debian taking it, QQ 25.10 will have the component added back in. It's post feature-freeze, so it may not be an easy FFe to roll to `pcs=0.12.0` since 0.11.9 is still in plucky proposed. 5. `pcs` is currently caught up in issues with `ruby-rack` that we're also fighting through. Before we can get 0.12.0 merged, we need to get that all sorted out. Sorry for a making it seem like we weren't looking into things, it's been a lot of catching up to upstream changes and allocating time to choosing an official tool (which Debian also hadn't done yet). `cockpit` is still wishlisted for us to make a determination on if it is a better solution -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2083589 Title: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cockpit/+bug/2083589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2083589] Re: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster
Yes, "cockpit-ha-cluster" is probably what's amiss when installing cockpit in Ubuntu (at least in 24.04, that's what I tried with). Cockpit itself installed of course, with a bunch of other default (?) plugins. Although new pcs features possibly brought by 0.12.0 could be nice, my main concern is that Ubuntu 24.04 (as opposed to 22.04) doesn't come with *any* gui way of handling HA clusters: neither pcsd, nor cockpit. I'm a bit surprised how my both bug reports on pcs and cockpit gets the "Wishlist" status when what has happened is that an existing functionality (pcsd web gui) suddenly is gone with no replacement (cockpit?).
Looks like the linked patch will be available in pcs 0.12.0, which is not yet available in Debian. Since it adds a new feature, I would be doubtful it could be considered for SRU. As to the cockpit plugin, I'm guessing what you're referring to is cockpit-ha-cluster? https://packages.fedoraproject.org/pkgs/pcs/cockpit-ha-cluster/ I'm not spotting cockpit-ha-cluster in the archive, so presumably the next action would be for it to be packaged/debianized and pulled into the Ubuntu universe archive. Pcs is in Ubuntu main, but I see cockpit and other pcs-* components live in universe, so having cockpit-ha- cluster in universe would be suitable. ** Tags added: server-triage-discuss -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2083589 Title: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cockpit/+bug/2083589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2083589] Re: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster
Hi Mitchell, thank you for acknowledging my finding as a bug/missed out feature. Don't bother to make a branch just for my sake, I'm not sure if would know how to test it and/or find the time for it. I will just wait and see, monitor what happens with this bug report (and the other one I created for the stand-alone pcs-web-ui). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2083589 Title: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcs/+bug/2083589/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2083589] Re: cockpit doesn't include plugin for ha-cluster
Hi Thomas, thank you for making this bug and making Ubuntu better! It seems like the upstream commit is [0] which is unfortunately not included in our repository yet. It's a pretty big patch so it'll need more review before being SRU'd. I can attempt to apply it to a noble branch in a PPA if you would like to try that out? I believe this bug might be considered a duplicate of the one you mentioned[1], but I will keep it open for now because this one is specifically talking about the cockpit plugin.
