[Bug 2086241] Re: Xorg freeze
Thank you for your help! Upon opening the 'Additional Drivers' app, the window reported that it was using a manually installed driver (unclear which) and all other driver options were grayed out. I followed the suggestion here (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1237590/not-able-to-change-the-nvidia- driver-in-ubuntu-20-04) and ran `sudo ubuntu-drivers install` and rebooted. My system booted properly after doing this, and 'Additional Drivers' now states that I am using the recommended driver (NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-550). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2086241 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2086241/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2086241] Re: Xorg freeze
Thanks for the bug report. As far as I can tell, the system is trying to use Xorg by default because Nvidia is the primary GPU(?), but the Nvidia Xorg driver is not properly installed (according to the Xorg log it's not present). Please try using the 'Additional Drivers' app to reinstall an Nvidia driver. Also if you remove the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter then you would also have the option of selecting 'Ubuntu on Wayland' at the login screen. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2086241 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2086241/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
