[Bug 2093179] Re: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts
Fix released in Mutter 48.0, by changing the real-time priority thread to high priority instead. This means it will never be a candidate to be SIGKILLed by the kernel. ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2093179 Title: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2093179/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2093179] Re: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts
That's surprising but in theory the fix in GNOME 48 should ensure gnome- shell never enters a state that allows it to be SIGKILLed by the kernel. For real-time scheduling reasons at least. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2093179 Title: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2093179/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2093179] Re: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts
Unfortunately just had another crash, so doesn't seem 100% fixed despite applying the above workaround. Can now confirm that MUTTER_DEBUG_KMS_THREAD_TYPE=user seems to have stopped the bug, no crashes in 4 days. [Bug 2093179] Re: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts
It's also being tracked in bug 2077216. But in a confused way because that says Oracular is already fixed. And it is, only for some people. So far we've had a few workarounds from Red Hat rather than a permanent fix to cover all cases. The permanent fix should be https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/4124 coming in GNOME 48 (Ubuntu 25.04). 'Incomplete' because we would still like you to try MUTTER_DEBUG_KMS_THREAD_TYPE=user in order to prove it's in the same family of bugs. ** Tags added: kms-thread kmsthread ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2093179 Title: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2093179/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2093179] Re: "failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe" frequent logouts
> failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe This is only the effect of the compositor dying, without any indication of why. This is probably bug 2034619. Try the workaround mentioned there: Add this to /etc/environment: MUTTER_DEBUG_KMS_THREAD_TYPE=user and then reboot.
