[Bug 2109692] Re: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock
Since you suggested a kernel bug, I updated to Ubuntu 25.04 (6.14.0-15-generic) and the problem is solved in newer version. External monitors are now correctly detected by the system. [Bug 2109692] Re: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock
I think it's most likely the USB-C port is wired to Intel and this is just a kernel bug failing to detect all the dock features on boot. ** No longer affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-570 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2109692 Title: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe-6.11/+bug/2109692/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2109692] Re: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock
Thanks for the analysis and suggestions. Following up on your points: I've checked the BIOS for options related to Thunderbolt or display routing between the integrated and dedicated graphics, but unfortunately, I couldn't find any such setting. I've also tested connecting the docking station via all the USB-C ports available on my system, but this didn't change the outcome – the monitor is still not detected at startup. Regarding drivers, I've already tried several Nvidia driver versions, including those potentially available via 'Additional Drivers', as well as the open-source Xserver 'nouveau' driver, and none of these attempts resulted in the external monitor being detected. I also tried different PRIME profiles without result. [Bug 2109692] Re: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock
It seems you're using a version of the Nvidia driver that is not from Ubuntu. Please try removing the driver you have and then using the 'Additional Drivers' app to install the Nvidia driver. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-570 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: linux-hwe-6.11 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2109692 Title: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe-6.11/+bug/2109692/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2109692] Re: Failed automatic external monitor detection
Thanks. It seems the kernel itself can't see any external monitor connected. It's also interesting the Nvidia card isn't reporting any display connectors exist. This makes me wonder if the Thunderbolt port is wired to Nvidia instead of Intel. Can you configure that in the BIOS? It's possible that when it starts working you have just turned on the Nvidia GPU. ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-570 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux-hwe-6.11 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Summary changed: - Failed automatic external monitor detection + Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2109692 Title: Failed automatic external monitor detection via Thunderbolt dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe-6.11/+bug/2109692/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for the bug report. [Bug 2109692] Re: Failed automatic external monitor detection
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2109692/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
